First Weekend of Summer DIY/ OOTD - feat. Nikki's Corner Boutique

Good afternoon ladies!

Yesterday was the official first day of Summer, and the ongoing CTRF challenge inspired my #OOTD. Are you all still partaking in this "stepping outside of the box and on to the critic's toes" challenge?

Living in FL, scarves are a fashion accessory that are difficult for me to wear. It is too hot in the summer and even in the fall, it is only cool for the first few hours and the last few hours of the day. I wish I would wrap up my neck like my fellow New York fashionistas, for the sake of fashion ... end up suffocating on the spot. However, I still do find myself purchasing the accessory because they're fabulous. I decided to step outside of my personal coop and wear a summer scarf my way.

Nikki's Korner, an online boutique carrying trendy merchandise for the young, plus-sized lady, sent me an accessory package i'll  be diving into over the next few weeks. I transformed the lightweight Garden Spring scarf (yellow) into a beach party ready bandeau top. The scarves are and come in color options: yellow base, white base, and black base. This particular type of top is always popular during the Summer, but as a plus-sized (or even just busty) woman, it is quite the task to find one that is going to fit AND be within the budget. There are several bandeau options at Forever 21 and other trendy spots, even the largest size will most likely leave some unsightly fat hanging out somewhere. There are also several independent designers that carry these particular tops just for us to purchase through their seasonal clothing lines, but $50+ for something i'll most likely wear 1-2 annually isn't really my type of buy. So I DIY.

Scarf: Nikki's Korner, Skirt: ASOS (Standard Sizes), Pumps: GoJane

How? Unfold your scarf and wrap it around your body from behind. During this step you can decide how much of your back you want to be exposed (unlike store bought bandeaus), cover your bra band , and conceal back fat. It is necessary to be wearing a supportive bra underneath. Next, tie a very tight knot between your breasts. Adjust the fabric around your breasts, you can again decide how much or how little cleavage you want displayed. The last step is tucking the extra fabric right underneath the knot and making sure it all looks neat. Simple. Way simple. Too simple.

Check out these additional ways to wear a lightweight , chiffon scarf (without passing out) during the summer months:
