So, I’m sure by now if you have a pulse & access to the internet, that you have either heard about, or read about Jamaican Black Castor Oil. You might even own a bottle, but may not be sure what exactly its benefits are. Hopefully after reading this, you will not only understand how beneficial it is, but begin to use it as a part of your regular hair care routine, relaxed or natural. I personally have an unopened bottle on deck in the bathroom to break open in case of an emergency.
Jamaican black castor oil and standard castor oil found in the market are a bit different in physical as well as chemical properties in terms of usage & benefits. Jamaican black castor oil is not a pure oil. It contains an impurity: ash. During the process of making JCBO, the castor beans are first roasted and then oil is extracted. The ash from the roasting process is added up in the oil. This ash makes the color of the Jamaican castor oil black, and is what makes the oil do “its thing.”
What to Do with it:
Improve Scalp Circulation
- Healthy hair begins with a healthy scalp. Applying black castor oil on your scalp can help increase circulation. It nourishes the hair and prevents the scalp from drying by holding moisture.
Control Split Ends
- Black castor oil as a conditioning treatment can help reduce split ends, which in turn prevents hair loss and breakage. Omega-9 essential fatty acids, vitamin E, proteins and other nutrients in castor oil penetrates dry and damaged hair, smoothing rough cuticles and helping the hair shaft preserve moisture. Mix some in your deep conditioner for extra UMMPH.
Increase Hair Luster
- Dull, dry and brittle hair is NEVER cute. All hair types will benefit from the use of castor oil. Castor oil is easily absorbed by the hair and has the ability to coat the hair shaft, sealing in moisture and creating a silkier surface.
Great Moisturizer & Sealer
- African-American hair is prone to dryness and black castor oil is known for its ability to retain moisture in these hair types. Because castor oil is rich in Omega-9 fatty acids, which helps keep your scalp from drying out, it seals in moisture when applied to either the hair or the scalp, making it an excellent moisturizer.
Treatment of Dry Scalp or Dandruff
- Castor oil contains anti-fungal, antiviral and antibacterial properties, making it an effective treatment for dry scalp and dandruff. All you have to do is apply black castor oil directly to your scalp's dry areas prior to washing or shampooing your hair.
Thicker Hair
- If you’re experiencing hair thinning and hair loss, castor oil prevents infections to your scalp and hair. It also helps to prevent further hair loss. Ultimately, regular use of black castor oil on your scalp will promote thicker hair growth
So, add it to your routine STAT. With all of those benefits, what NOT to lose in trying it? Massage some on your edges if they’re thinning. mix a few drops in with your deep conditioner. add it to your water & setting lotion mix when you’re setting a twist out. Rub some in the hair when its wet before blowdrying & flatiorning hair….. you will NOT regret it darling!
