Same Fit Done Thick is a growing movement where a plus-size fashionista displays how the same ensemble a petite personality wore looks on a fuller frame. Sometimes modifications are made to better suit the plus-size physique or just because that is what the host prefers/ could find. This trend first caught my eye when I saw many IG girls replicating a horde of Kim Kardashian’s (already chic) outfits to perfection. While experimenting with this trend (or anyone’s outfit you’re replicating), it’s important to know the difference between being inspired by a look and flat out copying. Even when following the blueprint of someone else’s fashion, I feel like your own personal style and character should shine through and make your look different from theirs. With that being said, I tried an experiment of my own.
You may have seen soul singer Jill Scott all “up and through” your timeline recently, flaunting her (sixty-three pounds) lighter physique, & emitting genuine joy. Let me say, she slaughtered that black bodycon dress with nude, mesh paneling by Ekineyo. I mean, she slayed in that baby; the way the platinum blonde wig and dark makeup harmonized with the dress took us home. I was definitely inspired by Jilly (from Philly) while crating today’s featured look. She's already thick, so I just "remixed" it.
I am wearing this colorblock dress from So Fab Boutique. This dress is fully customizable and hand-made to ensure an impeccable fit. It can be purchased through Instagram (@plussize_fashionz), tell her I sent you J
I made the look my own by opting for a neon base, instead of black as pops of neons are a signature style of mine and Jill likes to wear earth tones. I added extravagant accessories as opposed to simple ones and wore an updo style that doesn’t necessarily color-coordinate with the outfit. These minor details along with acknowledging the inspiration sources is what disconnects me from just "copying".
IT'S MY BIRTHDAY TODAY! This weekend i'll be flipping a Kim K outfit, stay tuned!
Happy Birthday!! Keep on inspiring women like me!
