Derriere + Mini Skaters

Many plus-size women (especially hourglass & pear shaped) abide the struggle of making sure our tush isn't hanging out the bottom of a skater skirt. I generally try to avoid the "walk & tug" process and the garment entirely by opting  for a midi skirt instead (ideal length). However, we still want to join in the versatility of fashion/ trends! I've tried to wear fit-and-flare garments many of times and almost always gets rid of them, never wearing them outside of the house. There's a fine difference between a cute, mini dress and then on the other hand, looking straight raunchy.

Personally, I believe skater skirts work a little better on a boxier frame, or a physique with less curves. When you put the skater skirt on the figure 8 silhouette, the waistband plummets into the curve of the waist to hip ratio. This causes the skirt to poke out further and reduces the (already short length). And there you have it, the entire bottom of my big 'ol wide rump is hanging out.

Wiser, I've learned a couple things that lessen the struggle:

1) If the garment allows, size up. You may not always be able to do this, sometimes sizing up makes everything else way too big. But if you can, this helps. The bigger size drapes a little more graciously  over your rear and is overall more relaxed (minimizing the pulling it down all through the day).

2) Pair your garment with flats. Heels will make it appear way shorter than it is, while maximizing the rise at the tush. I wore some pointed, neon loafers with tasseled accents. Cute and cozy, appropriate too.
